A recent graduate student of the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase College in Jazz Studies and a bachelors in Music Education from Buffalo State. Maxwell Filipiak has been carving into New York City’s music scene performing in various musical settings such as weddings, private events, galas, and concerts. He has worked with local businesses, restaurants, and venues across the boroughs from Manhattan to Queens. Maxwell has been fortunate enough to study with the likes of John Faddis, Ralph Lalama, Peter Malinverni, Ugonna Okegwo, Kenny Washington, Matthew Wilson, Mark Guiliana, Ash Soan, Robert “Sput” Searight, and many others.

Maxwell’s primary area of study is Jazz Drum Set Performance with a background in classical percussion. Throughout his undergrad in the city of Buffalo, he studied with principal timpanist of the Buffalo Philharmonic, Matthew Bassett, and with Buffalo’s Dr. John Bacon Jr.


I have worked in After-School Programs within the Western New York, and New York City areas, including:

  • Frank Sadita Academy:

    • Bucket drumming ensemble conducted with participating students in the school community. This was in partnership with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Buffalo Public Schools. With intention for music education conducted in after school programs in the city of Buffalo

  • Mind Builders:

    • After school community center where students can sign up for music, art, and dance participation. An environment that allows access to music and art education for students at any level or age within the community.

Private instruction at any age, level, and ability. With an open mind, and a willingness to learn, anything is achievable.
